The Cyclical Nature Continues...

I’ve been to DC a couple of times. I loved it each time and eagerly wish to return. If you know me, you know where I stand not only on the current administration but on America in its entirety. When I was in fifth grade, I was forcefully reprimanded for simply verbalizing something that sounded like it could be interpreted as a threatening remark to the government while in the Nation’s Capital. Yet, even I knew the sacredness of the buildings there in the eyes of many, and I’ve been most respectful toward them when I went during Obama’s years and Trump’s.
However, it should not get lost that something similar to what is happening in the Capitol was being done to retail conglomerate buildings and street shops alike in the summer, and was being met with a different tenor of response than what is happening now. Why the difference in response? Well, that’s depending on who you ask.
We have seen riots and violent protests before, even in my lifetime, comparable to what transpired in Minnesota or Oregon or wherever last summer. I have never seen anything like what is happening in what I remember to be the most heavily guarded building I’ve ever been in. Yet, again, the sense of victimhood that has been bestowed on those who forced themselves through the Capitol’s (doors? I don’t even remember how we got in the joint) entrance by some was not afforded to those who did something similar to a Target store last summer.
I’m not writing to make a point. Not even to change anyone’s mind. I’m simply observing and documenting what I’m seeing. When I saw what was happening in Minnesota, I was heartbroken that such an occurrence wasn’t taking place again. When I saw what happened today in DC, I literally was fearing for the very “peace” of our country.
Y’all broke in the Capitol? How did all y’all even get a ticket? I thought you had to have a ticket?
One last thought: If the majority of people who stormed the Capitol this morning were black people, how would this situation look different? I’m seriously asking how you, the reader, would imagine it because my mind can’t fathom (1.) dozens of black people brave (or dumb) enough to try, and (2.) the aftermath of such an audacious development.
